Event to urge MPs to end indefinite asylum detention great success

On 20 April, we partnered with Rene Cassin to organise over 60 faith and community leaders at the House of Commons. We went with a simple message; the system of indefinite immigration detention is 'inefficient, expensive and unjust' and is in desperate need of reform.

The room was packed and we had a series of exceptional speakers including Ajay and Justice from the Freed Voices group (experts by experience). It was encouraging to see so many parliamentarians, NGOs, faith leaders, youth movement leaders and many more represented in the room.

We hope that MPs were as impressed as we were by the experience of seeing such a diverse group of people from across the religious and political spectrum together calling for a change to the detention system. You can see a 'storify' of the event here. You can find the pre-event press release in our Press Resources section. Make sure not to miss the many wonderful photographs of the event, courtesy of our photographer Amos Schonfield.

Now it is up to all of us to follow up on this great event by continuing to support the campaign to end indefinite detention. You can find out how here.
